Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act (R․S․O․ 1990‚ c․H․8)‚ Section 106‚ Regulation 613‚ states that every driver of a motor vehicle shall ensure the proper restraint of any passenger under the age of 16 years‚ and that children under the age of 8 years shall be properly restrained in an appropriate car seat or booster seat․ The fine for not complying with this law is $1000 and two demerit points․ The wrong restraint may also put your child at greater risk of injury during a crash․

Rear-facing seats protect the head‚ neck‚ and spine‚ distributing forces across the strongest parts of the body․ Ontario law requires rear-facing seats until infants reach a weight of 9 kg (20 lbs)․ Transport Canada’s current guidelines recommend that infants be kept in rear-facing seats as long as the manufacturer of the seat will allow‚ which is normally 2 years old or older․
All of our infant seats are belted into the car with our UAS (Universal Anchorage System) seatbelts and checked by your chauffeur to ensure they are at the correct angle and that the harness is properly adjusted‚ meaning you should only be able to fit one finger between strap and baby․
Forward-Facing Convertible Seats (9 kg–18 kg / 20–40 lbs)
When your child outgrows the rear-facing car seat‚ they will still need to use a forward-facing car seat with a five-point harness and‚ if your vehicle is equipped with one‚ a top tether strap (by law in Ontario) attached to the car’s tether hook․ It will keep the forward-facing car seat securely in place in a crash․
Even if the convertible is used from age 1 to age 4‚ during every ride‚ you should check the harness height at the child’s shoulders‚ ensure that the tether strap is pulled tight‚ and check to see if the seat moves more than one inch at the belt path․
Booster Seats (18 kg–36 kg / 40–80 lbs)
A booster seat lifts your child up so that your vehicle’s seat belt fits them correctly‚ crossing their chest and hips‚ and not their neck and stomach․ In Ontario‚ a booster seat is legally required for children who are less than 8 years old‚ weigh 18 to 36 kg (40 to 80 lb) and are shorter than 145 cm (4’9″)․
High-back booster seats provide head and neck support for longer journeys․ Your chauffeur must correctly secure your child in a high-back booster seat and ensure that the child is sitting upright in the seat before setting off․
